Chandra
Where did this name come from? It suddenly appeared in the 60s, hit the 100s, then disappeared.

I knew girls born in that decade named Shondra, Shaundra, various spellings. I've always thought it was made up of popular sounds (Sandra + Cheryl, Sherry), though it makes sense that people may have seen the name of the Hindu god Chandra somewhere and assumed it was female and also got the pronunciation wrong.

Chandra is an Indian / Sanskrit name, and the name of the moon god. In the US there was a trend of interest in eastern spirituality, mysticism and religion during that decade, as well as a trend of Ch- (pronounced “sh”) names, such as Cher, Charlene, and Cheryl.
I assume like any other name trend, it faded away.
