Information/thoughts on Luned?
Luned..I pn it Loon-ED and I think it's kind of pretty. At first glance I wanted to say "Looned", rhymes with swooned. I'm reading a book with a female character of that name set in W. VA. in the Appalaichans(sp). Just wondering if it's a "real" name with an origin or straight out of the author's imagination. Some other characters have definitely created names, while others are older names, just not popular now.
Thanks!

Short for Eiluned, a common Welsh name, pronounciation Lin-ed.
Others have already pointed out the origin of the name. I just wonder if it's really at all appropriate to the character. What time period is the book set in, and what is the social background of the character Luned? Is there any indication she has Welsh ancestry? It certainly would be a highly unusual name in West Virginia at any time period.
The book's written in the present but was written in the 90's. Her brother's name is Evan and there was a reference to his Celtic coloring. Other than that there's no references to Wales. There are some pretty oddball names in the whole book, so there may not be rhyme or reason. Don't have the book with me now, but I'll get on in the next few days with a list of names for your amusement.

It's sometimes given as the origin of Lynette ... but that has never made much sense to me. I'd welcome something concrete too!
Sorry, jumped ahead of myself there. Did a search here and it's Welsh in origin, derived from Eluned. Anyone know the pn or anything else about it?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Computer glitch, sorry about that.:(

Hi my name is Eiluned from the Welsh name Eluned meaning Idol or Image. My name is quite unique since I've never met anyone with the same name.
PS welsh names often have several pronounciations depending on the person's accent or language.
I'm Afrikaans so we pronounce my name EE-LI-NUD
