My Dad was born in Big Clifty Kentucky in 1910. His name was Aud Earl Whayne and had a female twin named Audra Earlene Whayne. I became Aud Earl Whayne Jr. in 1947 in Memphis Tennessee. I have searched for the meaning and origin of the name Aud and the only thing that comes up is a feminine Norwegian name. I've searched for fraternal twin names and haven't found this combination. Perhaps it is a misspelling of something else? Neither my Dad nor I used the name. We always used Earl. I didn't know Aud was my first name until I was about 10 or 12. I saw it on some official document and was confused.

This site says, of the male name Otto: "Later German form of Audo or Odo, originally a short form of various names beginning with the Germanic element aud meaning "wealth, fortune"." It also gives Aud as a Norwegian female name, as you say, and links it to Otto.
This makes me think that your father's name looked masculine to his parents, so he (and you) got Aud and your aunt got a very feminised version of it: the modern-looking Audra. I hope that helps!
