I have always believed my name to be a variation of Helena. I have recently discovered it to be the Romanian feminine derivation of Elijah (confirmed by this site). However both Elijah and Helena seem show the same variations including the root Ili(e) which makes me wonder if they are after all in fact related ...

They're not related, sorry

Helena's derived from Greek, while Elijah is derived from Hebrew, and they have entirely different meanings. It's a coincidence that they share the element ili/ilie.
