My column on Herman
Here is the link to today's column:https://omaha.com/lifestyles/cleveland-evans-the-name-herman-is-steeped-in-literary-athletic-and-magical-history/article_06d18ae2-efab-11eb-805b-4f08c3a1aefb.htmlI learn the most interesting history researching this column. I had no idea Black Herman existed until a few days ago. He actually is often considered an important civil rights figure, being one of the first Black Americans to be successful while demonstrating great skill and intelligence and asserting his equality. Another interesting tidbit I learned -- on "The Munsters" Herman Munster, who was a comic figure based on Frankenstein's monster, was said to have been born in Germany, like Frankenstein. Though he didn't have a German accent, in at least two episodes of the show he is shown reading a German language newspaper.
