Not to start anything here or whatever, but I just wanted to ask how accurate do you think Nameberry is for names?
For example:
Over here it states Catherine / Katherine is indeterminable for its meaning.
Nameberry says it literally just means “pure”.
Over here it states Julian could be deprived from something meaning “downy-bearded”.
Nameberry says it means sky father, downy-bearded, and youthful.
A pretty obvious difference I noticed from BtN and Nameberry is that Namberry is a little more open-minded when it comes to names not to mention that’s a little more of a baby name site. BTN just simply focuses on the etymology but sometimes people in the comments debunk it. Nameberry is also a little more complex, lol.
To put it in short: How accurate is nameberry when it comes to names?

I use nameberry a lot to check in on current trends. I think they do really great analyses of trends. However, they are heavily weighted towards modern trends in the United States. Also, as they have written in their blog posts before, their users are mainly Anglo-Saxon and from the United States.
So, in short, I think they are a good place for trends and predictions, although their samplings come from data from their users, which are a small subset of the global population. It also has a really great community, although I wouldn't say that it is a diverse community.
I think BtN gives a more accurate and global perspective on names.

Nameberry gives the public what it thinks they want. This is self-serving rather than open-minded!

I love that site so much. The community is awesome and there are good lists. However, DON’T TRUST NAMEBERRY ON MEANINGS. I don’t. I use Behind the Name for the detailed and accurate etymologies.
For the creators’ comments on names, lists, blog posts, the forums etc. Nameberry is pretty good. But meanings are occasionally false.

Ah yes, I did meet you on Namberry. Thanks for the input on the meanings and stuff.

Not very accurate. Practically every description of a name is just... advertising it, so they tend to supplement meanings for ones that sound more dramatic or romantic or interesting.
