Is it even a name?
I've been quite smitten with the name Ant for a while now. I know, I know, it's a bit of a maverick sort of name. I'm not even sure if it is a name. Can anyone tell me the meaning/origin of the name and if it can even be considered one? Thanks in advance.

Hello formicidophiles! The body of the ant is divided into three sections. (arrow indicates) The head, the thorax and the abdomen. They are enclosed in a hard amour-like covering called the exoskeleton, which provides some protection from other nasty little insects but unfortunately not from the dissector's scalpel. (an animated hand with a knife slices bits off the ant) See, nothing to it, he's not such a toughy. And his legs ... they help him carry hundreds of times his own weight, but look at this ... (a hand pulls the legs off) you're not so strong compared with me, four, five, six ... Ha! (Monty Python's Flying Circus - the Ant Documentary)

The Swedish Ante is a nn for Anders and Anton (but also a given name). Ants is an Estonian form of Andrew.I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones. ~Albert Einstein

It could be as a nickname for Anthony so it would have the same meaning as that.Eleanor

Thank you!I was thinking of something along those lines. Perhaps it could even be derived from Ante, the Latin name. I'll have to check into that.Either way, thank you. Your input is appreciated.

Ante in Latin means Before. And was never used as a name ...
