I was told it is Cheyenne origin and means "beautiful spot on the mountain" I named my daughter that because I am proud of our native roots,and my life has been hard, so she was the flicker of beauty in the midst of my trials. Her younger sister was born twelve years later, I named her Cheyenne Echo, as I wish my strong daughters to be proud of their native heritage.

So I was told that the name originated from Native Americans. My name comes from the Ojibway tribe and means "Morningstar". Now living out west, I have come across this name in the Lakota tribe and to them it means "Fire in the sky lady". Thanks for the other information. This is a great thread! My mom named me fawnice after she met a native lady that was nez Perce in Idaho her name was fawnice. The lady stated that it meant little princess I've been trying to find information on this then I had my daughter and my mom came up with the name to Tashina and that was Cheyenne so after reading what you wrote it it she is Cheyenne her name but we were always told it meant favored daughter can you find anything on a tribe with my name I'd appreciate it

Not sure how true this is. But the name comes out of a Native American movie - Windwalker from 1981.

I was always told this name was from Lakota decent, another Native American tribe. Meaning = like the robe of the Great Creator (roughly translated as blanket). I've been told that my entire life.
