Sabio is not listed in my Italian name dictionary, but it is listed in my Spanish name dictionary (Diccionario de Nombres de Persones by Jose Albaiges Olivart), where it is said to come from Latin sapiens, "wise", and to originally have been an epithet of St. Dominic.
