Clayton
I looked up the name Clayton, it says the meanngs of it is "Clay Settlement." What is that supposed to mean? A clay settlement doen't make very much sense to me, I'd really like it if brought up an answer.

Clayton was originally a place name. It goes back to the name of several villages in medieval England, and it meant "place built on clayey soil." There are also villages in England named Santon, which meant "place built on sandy soil."
Well Clayton was a place name before it was a persons name so "Clay settlement" makes perfect sence to me
Ton means settlement or Village in old English and there are an awfull lot of place names with this ending here in England.
Clayton the place, might have originally been a settlement next to a Clay pit,
