My parents told me they chose the name Ian because it couldn't be shortened. Throughout my schooldays, from 5-18, I was the only boy with that name - so I didn't like it, being the odd one out. Also it was mispronounced as "EYE-an", I used to think they were just ignorant. But I like it now, it sounds neat, clean, not that common, and can't be shortened!
