Wendell as a first name in the US
Hey guys,
I've been doing some reading recently about some scholars of the Transcendalism movement, who are often highly entwined with a lot of of the Boston Brahmin families, and I've noticed the first name Wendell for a male child coming up a lot in these New England family trees.
Any insight? I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but I'm interested.

Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., was a well-known member of the Boston literati and friend of Emerson, Longfellow, etc. Wendell had been his mother's maiden name.
Perhaps the name Wendell became popular in the Boston area in his honor. Or do your examples predate his influence (say, before 1830 or so?)
