I ran across it on someone else's list as Maridee. The anonymous poster offered Meridy as an alternate spelling. Maridee looks like a combo name of Mary / Dee to me, but I google Meridy and get more than eleven pages. It's apparently a surname, and possibly a place name.
Anyone know anything about surname/place name Meridy - meaning, origin?

update.. so far I have found one Meridy family whose name appears to have been an abbreviation of the name Meredith. It may also have been written as Meredy.
Merriday - Welsh? There could be a connection. Anyone have any other good sources, electronic or print?
Or actually.. does anyone have a link to a good method for approaching this research problem? I'm a total beginner here.
