Briley is an English surname. I haven't been able to find a definite original meaning for it, but one source (I think it was Hanks's Dictionary of American Family Names) suggested that it could be a short form of Brierley, and English place name meaning "briar clearing."
Briley is a well-known surname in Nashville, Tennessee, where one of the main streets, Briley Parkway, is named after a former mayor.
