You have a wrong post about the name Hedy- Hedy with the y is NOT the short name of Hedwig but it is an own name. It has nothing to do with battle as you write nbecause it is NOT A GERMAN NAME EVEN THOUGH IT SOUNDS SIMILA IT IS GREEK AND THEREFORE HAS THE Y- originally it comes from the Hebew name Hodiya and Hedy in Greek means kind while in Hebrew it has something to do with the connection between God and the human. Please correct this big mistake. Thank you.

In Germany (and yes, I am living there), the endings -i and -y for short forms and nicknames are used quite interchangeably; the -y spelling is not convincing argument for a different derivation.
Not also that a Greek name cannot end in -y (There is a very restricted set of possible endings for Classical Greek words).

I live in a country where people speak German and where the name Hedwig is present (albeit considered rather old-fashioned nowadays), and I can confirm first-hand that Hedy is a common short name / diminutive for Hedwig here. So I fail to see a "big mistake".
What's possible is that "Hedy" has more than one etymology. Of course a Hebrew name of "Hodiya" could also develop into "Hedy", written in exactly the same way as the German "Hedy".
