Lileas - "God is my oath" or "lily flower"?
Lileas is generally just said to be the Scottish version of Lillian, but is it taken directly from Lillian as a diminutive of Elizabeth, or from the Latin lilium from the lily flower?Thank you!

This is the problem with names. Being disassociated from their origin and meaning, names of different origin are easily assimilated in spelling. E.g. Jenny short for Cornish Jennifer, and Jenny the diminutive of Jane or Jean, from Hebrew Yochanan (John) through a Greek feminine form Ioanna.

Ah this is a bit confusing because no one can seem to agree on the origin of Lillian, even here it says (and I quote) "Probably originally a diminutive of ELIZABETH. It may also be considered an elaborated form of LILY, from the Latin word lilium."From this I'd take Lillian to be a diminutive of Elizabeth
