Found this Yiddish name, Shoni, on the User submitted section for Yiddish names, and I really love it but I'm always a bit dubious about using the user submitted section on BtN as my only source, it claims its a variant of the Yiddish names Shaina (which is on this site and says it's a variant of Shayna) and Sheina which I can't find anywhere reliable.
When looking for "Shoni" on the internet I do get some sources saying that it's either a variant of Shayna / Shaina or I find it by itself as a name with the same meaning as Shayna / Shaina ("beautiful").
So is it a valid Yiddish name?

I could be completely wrong here, but it almost looks like a variant of Shoshannah to me.
My cousin in Israel recently had a baby girl and she was given the name "Shini," which he said meant something along the lines of "long-stemmed rose." Shini was named for my other cousin Shoshannah, who was thrilled about having a grandchild named for her.

That also seems very likely. It's just that the name claims to have a Yiddish origin is throwing me off a bit but thank you for providing a valid option!

The only think I can add is that it's a unisex name, and Shuni is a variant. According to the website I found it's rather rare in Israel, and is used for boys 60% of the time. I also found more information in Hebrew, but since I can't read it well enough, that's not very helpful.
Another source lists Shuni as masculine, meaning "sleeping", but doesn't mention Shoni as a variant.
There's also Shon, which is a Hebrew form of John. Maybe Shoni is derived from that?

Thanks for your help! It's interesting to see that it might be a unisex name considering everywhere I've looked it says to be female!
I'm not sure about it being a variant for Shuni though because I think it uses different hebrew characters?? I don't know enough about this to be one hundred percent sure though :)
