According to the author, her name Olemaun represents a word meaning "the stone that sharpens an ulu", a flint knife. Presumably it's Inuvialuktun, but the spelling is not that used either currently or traditionally and is suspiciously similar to the former name of the place she was born, Holman Island, now Ulukhaktok. The actual Holman Island is a short distance (about 5 km) south of Ulukhaktok, but was the nearest named place to the community.
