Famous explorer
The name Huon is most famous for the Huon pine in Tasmania. This beautiful tree - ancient, strong, enduring and renowned for its timber qualities - was named after the French mariner and explorer, Huon de Kermandec.Captain Huon Kermandec was commander of the French ship, L’Esperance which he was chosen to command September 1791 on the Bruni d'Entrecasteaux expedition to find the lost expedition of Jean-François de La Pérouse. The expedition explored Australia and the South Pacific.D'Entrecasteaux named the Huon River in Tasmania and the Kermadec Islands, north-east of New Zealand, after him. The Kermadec Trench and Kermadec Ridge in the Pacific also honour his name as does, indirectly, the magnificent Huon pine (Lagarostrabus franklinii) in Tasmania.Huon de Kermadec also gave his name to the Huon Island Group, administered by New Caledonia, and the Huon Gulf and Huon Peninsula, in eastern Papua New Guinea.Tasmania's Huon Valley and the township of Huonville are also named after this gifted explorer who was known as a well-read and cultured man, who sketched and played the flute.

Look like cut-and-paste from Wikipedia. It seems that "Huon de Kermandec" is the surname and "Jean-Michel" the given name of that particular person.
