my name
I was born 1947, named Sophronia after my grandmother Sophronia Sowers Smith. I have never met another Sophronia and have met only a handful of people who have ever heard of it. Are there any more Sophronia's out there?

The prophet of the LDS religion, Joseph Smith, had a sister named Sophronia.
The name Sophronia is Ancient Greek and it means "of sound mind", hence, "discreet, prudent". It is the feminine of Sophron and it derives from the word "sophron", combined by the words "soos" (safe and sound, alive and well, in good case) and "fren" (in this case meaning: mind, as seat of the mental faculties, perception, thought). Both names (Sophron, Sophronia) are still in use in Greece.
