Erasmus and Geert
Of course, honor and love are related semantically, both express some kind of estimation or appreciation. However,"geehrt" means "honored, venerated" in German, not "loved, beloved". Grimms dictionary also gives vereri (to fear), parcere (to spare) and ignoscere (to forgive) as additional meanings for "ehren", however, not love. This may have been different in Dutch in the times of Erasmus. We would have to ask a specialist in German studies about that, I am afraid.
