Re: Name meaning

Ayrton is an English surname which means one's ancestors came from a place called Airton in Yorkshire. This originally meant "farmstead on the River Aire". The origin of the name of the river is unclear; it may possibly be from Old Scandinavian eyjar, "islands", or may be from a Celtic or Pre-Celtic word meaning "strongly flowing."
