Why were Lillie and Lilly more popular than Lily in the 1800's? What eventually triggered Lily to be the most popular variation?

Lillie and Lilly are often nicknames for Elizabeth, always a very popular name. Flower names are less common but had a certain fad in Victorian times. The Arts and Crafts movement was responsible for some of that.
