Riley is also a spelling variation of the Irish surname Reilly, which goes back to Gaelic Raghallach or Rogallach, the name of a king of Connacht who died in 648. The original meaning of that seems to be unknown, but I would bet that "valiant warrior" is someone's guess as to the original meaning of the Irish name.
