Curious about a (mis)pronunciation of 'Lydia'
When I was young I use to think Lydia was pronounced LIE-dee-uh, And I quickly grew fond of it. I was soon corrected to LID-ee-uh. But ever since then I've wondered if in any language, Or related name would pronounce it like that. Does anyone have anything?

No, but...There is a name with the pronunciation LIE-dee-ah. Leidia (a form of Adelheid, maybe through Aleida) is pronounced roughly like you've been pronouncing Lydia, except that in Dutch the end -a is always 'ah' never 'uh'.

As far as I know, English is the only language in which "Ly" can be pronounced like the word "lie." There are a few names in which it is pronounced that way: Lyle, Lyla, Lyman. I have also heard of Lyda (and Lida) with the "lie" sound and it's possible that might be related to Lydia. But Lydia itself, no.
