Marquita

Marquito is a diminutive of Marcos / Marco... perhaps it's a feminine form of these names?
ETA: According to wiki, Marquita Rivera's formal name was "María Heroina". I don't know how it works in Spanish, but in Portuguese I've definitely heard Mariquinhas / Mariquitas / Marquitas as short for Maria as well. This etimology seems more likely in my opinion.
