I am not sure, but it is probably related to the Sanskrit shrI in some fashion. This word ultimately derives from a verbal root shri that means to lie on or spread, but was also applied to the diffusion of light or beauty and, thence, to the act of honoring. shrI therefore means shine, beauty, glory, grace or respected.
