Trying to find out more about my name?
My name is Ecil, and it was also the name of my great-grandmother. I never met her, but I know that her background was Swiss. I've tried searching for where my name might have come from for years and I've never found anything. Does anyone know where it might have come from??

I am from Switzerland, from the German-speaking part, but I never heard about such a name, or something similar. Ecil is very strange anyway, it manages to sound neither German, nor French, nor Italian, at least to my ears.
Do you happen to know from which part of Switzerland your great-grandmother came?

I was thinking the same thing.
@ Ecil:
Do you know what year your great-grandmother was born?
Is it possible that Ecil might be an anglicization of some other name?
Also, do you happen to know if she had any siblings and what their names were? (That might give some clues as well)

Could you write the way your name is pronounced (phonetics)?
and write all the name variants (if there is any).
