The original Irish spelling was "Sadhbh", which would coincide more closely with the "Sive" pronunciation. But "Sadbh" is a perfectly valid spelling variant.Per roisindubh.tripod.com , the authoritative Irish name site run by Katie Doyle and "our Norah", the name means "sweet" or "goodly" and can be rendered into English as Sophie, Sarah, or Sally
