Ráichéal's pronunciation
I believe I asked this before, a long time ago, but I couldn't find it in the Archives, so I'm asking again. How is Ráichéal (the Irish form of Rachel) pronounced?Miranda

According to namenerds.com's English names translated into Irish names page, it's RAW-shale. See here: http://www.namenerds.com/irish/trans.htmlArray

While that site is generally very accurate, this pronunciation is incorrect. In Gaelic, 'ch' is always pronounced hard just as in German and Hebrew.
In this name the 'ch' is slender and has a short 'yeh' sound after it.
The 'á' is a long [aw] as in 'lawn.'
The 'é' is a long [ay] as in 'rein.'
Ignore the 'i' and 'a' because they are essentially helping vowels. So Ráichéal is roughly [RAW-khyale].
