I heard the name Luciola today on an elderly Brazilian woman. Now I'm wondering what Luciola means. Is it related to Lucia? If not, what does Luciola mean?
The -ola ending is one of the ways that diminutives were formed in Latin; Cicero's daughter Tullia was known as Tulliola, for instance. I suppose it would work the same way in Portuguese. Little Lucy, therefore.
