A fletcher is a person who makes arrows, very true, the name also is a job title. Surnames sprang from the medieval governments tax. People were given surnames for tax records based on the job of the male member of the houses job.
Fletcher also is in fletching, which is the feathers on an arrow which makes it fly straight.
