Name of Ancestor
I am researching my family tree and have come across the name Rezia (female) which belongs to my great great grandmother.I would like to know if it is short for another name or where it comes from?

Rezia can be a pet form of Lucrezia, or Regina, or Raisel :)

There is a muslim name in India which is often written Razia or Radiya, but the pronounciation I have heard often comes close to Rezia. I do not know the origin of the name, but see my previous post on that topic at http://www.behindthename.com/bb/arcview.php?id=236076&board=gen

Thanks for the info. All I know about Rezia is that she was born in Hungerford, Berkshire. We are not Indian by origin.

It is a pet form of Lucrezia and Terezia.
My old highschool had an exchange student from Austria who went by 'Rezia'. I do not know if it was a short form or not. I never met her or talked to her, only saw her and knew of her.~SD

Thanks. This could be a possibility - I will investigate my family tree further.

It could be a variant of Theresia. Many Maltese girls' names have "z" in them. Are you of Maltese origin?Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if only one remembers to turn on the lights
