Meaning and origin of Atticus?
Hi everyone!
I'm rather new here and i'm impressed by the knowledge shown here.I know Atticus is a male name and it sounds Greek or Latin.I also wonder if anyone can find the meaning of Öllegård? It is a Danish female name. "gård" might be related to "garden" or "yard" but i'm not sure.

I'm a psy-chick, Ollegard. ;)Give me your first, middle and last names and I'll give you a cool American Indian name from an anagram of it.-- Nanaea

Thank you, would you give my dd a cool Indian name?
Her name is Lilian Saga Hou.Unless you're a hacker with uncanny skills, i think that you must be very knowledgable in languages. Therefore you know that only (?) Sweden has the letter Å in its alphabet. The letter Ö is also used in Finnish, Estonian, German , Hungarian and Turkish.

Lilian's Cool American Indian Name"Lilian Saga Hou" anagrams into: "Gailia Sun Halo".A pretty name for a pretty "dd" ("daughter"?) If you want any more, I'll be happy to supply. :)Thanks for the info about the Swedish alphabet -- I didn't know that! :)-- Nanaea

OllegardWhile she's at it, I could try translating it into Irish Gaelic, that is, if you're interested.Phyllis

Well, my real name is not Öllegård, it is just a name i love. My real name is short for something like Maria Magdalena or Maria Helena . But maybe you have an Irish translation of Lilian Saga, my dds name? "Saga" means sibylla or wise woman.

OllegardUsing the second translation of your real name, your name would be Moire Greine (a mark, called fada, that looks kinda like an accent mark over the first e in Greine). It is pronounced Moeera Grayinuh.
Your dd's name translates to Lile Bean Feasa, pronounced Liluh Ban Fasuh.Phyllis (aka Sidhe Uaine or Gaia Euphoria)

OllegardI'm familiar with the word "Saga". I'm not sure if I've ever posted this information, but I took a Norse Mythology class. Heck, I kinda taught the blasted class (losing brownie points with the blasted professor). (I guess that's what you get for being insatiably curious. [ :D] )I'll try to translate all the names into Gaelic, so please be a bit patient.Phyllis

Found it! :)Here you go, Ollegard:According to this website, "Olegard" is a form of "Odilgard":http://www.vornamen.com/namen/o_female.htmAnd according to this website, "Odilgard" comes from "the old German 'ot' possession) and 'gard' (stronghold, protection)":http://www.7brg.de/Vornamen/wvoro.htm-- Nanaea

A very long-shot speculation: Olivegarden?

Atticus means noble one and if you read To Kill A Mockingbird you can see why the author, Harper Lee chose this name for one of her characters

Hi, Ollegard! I see you're posting from... Sweden? Selwyn is in Denmark, and may be able to help you with the meaning of the Danish name "Ollegard".As for "Atticus" -- that I know is Latin and means: "belonging to Attica, or Athens". It was (and still is, I imagine) an appelation denoting classical intelligence, elegance, and wit.It was also the name of the father/lawyer in Harper Lee 's wonderful novel, *To Kill a Mockingbird* -- a character brilliantly portrayed by actor Gregory Peck in the filmed version.-- Nanaea
