You mentioned she got it from a book and the first thing that came to mind was a world that was created for a game called Dungeon's & Dragon's. The game (and the subsequent series of books that took place in the setting of the game) was called Dragonlance. The world that everything took place in was called Krynn.
My guess is that if your mom reads fantasy novels, these books would be where she got the name from. Follow the link below and ask you mom if any of the books or characters mentioned there ring a bell.
