I met a girl named Maidy today, I have never heard it and it is not in the database. I was wndeing if anyone else has heard f it and if anyone knows what it means or its pronunciation?

I've also seen it spelt Maidie. Apparently it's a short for Madeline/Madeleine.

I've seen it in British novels as a short form of Maidlin, which was a variant of Madeline.I've never encountered it in real life, and I should imagine it wouldn't have had much usage before the 1940s when many people actually employed domestic workers. But now there wouldn't be much risk of confusion!
