Dashiell pronounciation...

Dashiell - How is this French male name pronounced? I've heard people put the emphasis on the beginning and the end.

Dashiell Hammett took his mother's maiden name as his own first name (De Chiells), pronounced with a French emphasis on the second syllable.

I'd pronounce it Daa-shell...but it ain't french, the elements "sh" and "ll" at the end of a name don't exist in french (i'm french), but it's perhaps only the origin...

I've always said DAA-shell, with an A as in "attic".Array
