Surname WETZEL

This name is German and I don't know how those chose their names in Germany.This is my dad's surname. His full name was Fred "Bert" WETZEL.

According to Rosa und Volker Kohlheim (Familiennamen, Herkunft und Bedeutung, Duden-Verlag Mannheim 2000), WETZEL goes back to a pet form of WERNER the meaning of which you can look up on this site.
