In the gore movie "In the Folds of the Flesh", Pier Angeli plays a double role. The name of a character is Esther; the other, Falesse. What's the origin and meaning of the latter?

I think it may mean "cliff" from the French 'falaise' or the Italian 'falasia'. The English name Fallis, or Fallas is derived from the same French word.
