What is the origin of .............
What is the origin of the word plutonic? It has to do with igneous rocks ......... if that helps.

I believe it comes from Pluto, the god of the underworld in Roman mythology.
I'm afraid that I'm not that familiar with geology, but isn't igneous rock the kind that comes from cooled lava? Lava is from the magma which comes from underground, hence the attribution to the underworld and Pluto. Please correct me if I'm wrong with my information about igneous rock.

So "plutonic" essentially means "no one gets their rocks off"? :p
