My untrackable name
My name is Zania,I am female and Live in South Africa. Apperently my mother came across my name in a book. I am Afrikaans, but my name is not (according to my understanding) of Afrikaans origin. No web site can give me a meaning or history of my name.
I'd love to know things like the meaning, history and maybe the popularity of my name. Lol! Well the popularity is rather obvious...

Could it be a variant of Azania?

Azania name - meaning and origin
Name: Azania
Origin: Hebrew
Meaning: Azania name means: Variant of Azaniah: God is listening; God listens.
The girl's name Azania \a-za-
nia\ is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "heard by God". From the male name Azaniah, borne by a minor biblical character. The name is now used mainly with reference to the African nationalist name for South Africa, as a symbol of resistance during the apartheid era.

Sorry, I don't know anything about your name but I wanted to say hi because I just visited South Africa (Capetown & Stellenbosch to be exact) last Christmas and I loved it so much! You live in a very beautiful country! What Province are you from? (If you don't mind me asking)

Could it originally be from Zinnia (a flower)? Or Zaina? Or Zana? Or Zenia?
I would honestly have no clue which it was a variant of though. I would probably assume Zinnia or Zenia.
Also, there's the part where it looks like part of Tanzania. I can't find a meaning for the name Tanzania, however. Like they just made it up when they combined contries.

Yes, Tanzania is `made up' or portmanteau word from Tanganyika and Zanzibar, which joined in the mid-60's. The original two country names are in Swahili and Arabic respectively.
What book did your mom find your name in?
