Judging by the last part (chen) it sounds German. "Chen" means "little" in German names but it is mostly (always?) used for girls. As in Mädchen (girl), Gretchen (little Greta), Blümchen (little flower).
"Kin" is supposed to mean "gold" in Japanese.
Which country did your grandfather come from? Or what was his surname? This might give a clue.
