I've been told this means 'gazelle' in an African language. The closest I can find on the net is a girl's name, 'Mirjana'.

My book says it's a South Slavic name with the element 'mir', which means 'peace'. (compare Miroslav / Vladimir) Mirjana seems to be the feminine form of Mirjan,

That's about it, only the form Miran is much more frequently used.
