Adding to what EP said, it can also be the phonetic character 奈 'na', which I believe comes from one of the characters in 'Nara' (a city).

and "south"
I'm not sure which character pronounced "Na" is "pay, supply, accept, store." The other three are all definitely used in names. Na in itself is not a name as far as I know, but Nana is a common girls' name which can be written with any one of these characters, followed by a symbol which is the Japanese equivalent of ditto marks. "Na" is also an element in many popular girl's names like Hina, Yuuna, Aina, etc.
