You'd have to do the hard slog through records to be sure but my first thought was the rare French surname Du Paissage.
I expect it will be hard going with records of it hard to come by simply from the sheer rarity of the name. In my family tree when I came across a name like that that immediately struck me as 'odd' I just went back generation by generation collecting records and generally traced the name as it changed. One of mine was Gandee. I assumed some strange English name. But tracing it back in went to Gandy then Gander, then Ganther and wound up in Mutterstadt Germany so you could see how immigration and movement changed the name. I'd imagine a similar case with Passage.
