Two names are liable to be confused.
The Hebrew Dalia/Daliah/Dalya is dah-lee-ah
Dahlia, as in the flower, can be dah-lee-uh or day-lee-uh (the latter is the usual Brit pronunciation of the flower)

If you want to pronounce it DAY-lee-uh like the flower, then why not spell it Dahlia and save a lot of explanations?

It is not my child. I do know a small Dahlia, though, and her name is pronounced dahl-ee-uh, not day-lee-uh.

Dalya's in the database as a variant transcription of the Hebrew name Dalia, so I suppose it can be considered legit.
