Where was this girl born? What is the ethnic and cultural background of her parents?
The surname Bikel as in Theodore Bikel is probably a Jewish surname which was originally a diminutive of a Yiddish, Polish, or Russian word meaning "ox" or "bull", since A Dictionary of Surnames gives that origin for "Bickel", and Theodore Bikel was certainly Jewish. But that may have nothing to do with your friend's given name.

Thanks for replying she was born in America and I'm pretty sure she's not Jewish.
