Mourning
Mourning is the name of one of my ancestors. She lived in colonial Virginia, and at that time and that specific area of Virginia that name was fairly popular for girls. Does anyone know of any other Mournings?

I don't know of any other Mournings' personally but in my search of relatives on genealogy sites I have seen the name Mourning, mostly given names of females born between 1800 and 1930. Some of them have alternate versions of the name such as Morning.
I have three ancestors named Mourning that lived in North Carolina. Their birth years range from 1707-1720. I counted 40 Mournings in a genealogy book I own. The book looked at census records of Wilson NC in 1860. I believe that Mourning is a Puritan virtue name similar to the names Remember and Remembrance. There are other Puritan names in the book such as Temperance (very popular), Obedience (also popular), and a few named Unity, Purity, Piety, Charity, Chastity, Patience, Faith, and Prudence. Biblical names make up most of the other female names - both common and more obscure names. I haven't been able to find any source that lists Mourning as a Puritan name but I'm still looking.
