Syringus
The only place I've ever seen this name in use is as part of the name of an Austrian archduke:
Rudolf Syringus Peter Karl Franz Joseph Robert Otto Antonius Maria Pius Benedikt Ignatius Laurentius Justiniani Marcus d'Aviano.
It is also found as part of the Latin name of some plants.
Does anyone have more information on it? Other forms or history.
I'm not looking for comments about how awful it is and how it looks like the word syringe. Not planning to use it just trying to learn more about it.

Syringus seems to be derived from the Greek syrinx- that gives us the word syringe and a bunch of medical terms: http://www.wordinfo.info/words/index/info/view_unit/2075
Syrinx was also a nymph in Greek Mythology: http://www.theoi.com/Nymphe/NympheSyrinx.html
I don't see strong evidence of Syringus being used as a first name other than the archduke you mentioned, but I do see Syring as a surname and Syringa as both a surname and a first name.

Thank you.
Do you have any more info on the name Syringa which you mentioned?

Not really. I just did a search for people on Facebook with variants of Syringus to get a feel for which names are being used. It is easier than trying to search for them on Google, which only gives you plants and medical terms when trying to search for the names.
