In '05 there were messages by Tana and I think Azena about the etymology of Elodia. It is not of Germanic origin but Greek instead. elos means marsh or swamp and elodis means marshy or swampy (Collins Gem Greek Dictionary, Langenscheidt Pocket Greek Dictionary, Plantes sauvages des lacs, rivières, et tourbières). But like Tana and Azena said it is the generic name of a flower, but with an e, which has several names and species including waterweed, duckweed, pondweed, ditch-moss, water-thyme, etc., but is not the name for a seaweed. I've seen the other proposal elsewhere and I don't know where it comes from but it is definitely wrong.
